Phillip A Min, a career diplomat, took over as Consul-General of the US Consulate here on Thursday.
"This is an exciting time to arrive in South India and for US-India relations as we explore together new opportunities to deepen and broaden our strategic partnership. I am thrilled to return to South Asia and I look forward to exploring the rich cultural diversity of the people of South India," he said.
About Min
Over his 27-year career in the US Foreign Service, Consul General Min has served in South America, Europe, East Asia, and South Asia including posts in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Warsaw, Poland; Seoul, Korea; Tokyo, Japan; Bogota, Colombia; and Karachi, Pakistan.
In Washington, Min has worked in Consular Affairs and in the Office of Japanese Affairs.
Min earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and did graduate work in East Asian Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle.
He received a Master of Science degree in National Security Policy from the National War College in Washington D.C. He is a three-time recipient of the State Department's Superior Honor Award.
Min was born in the Washington D.C. and considers his home base in the US to be split between New Jersey and Northern Virginia. He is married to Eun Young Lee, a classical pianist.
Min's predecessor was Jennifer McIntyre, who had a three-year stint here.
