Now, details about heritage sites in TN available on app

Hiring a guide at a heritage site often ends up proving troublesome. You may not find a guide, or you get a person who repeats the information like an automated machine. It was from this that a homemaker thought of developing android apps for a handful of famous heritage sites in Tamil Nadu. Today, the app that Devyani Deshmukh developed for places like Mamallapuram, Kancheepuram and Thanjavur are widely used by people in India as well as abroad.

After shifting from Pune to Chennai in 2010, Devyani fell in love with ancient monuments in Tamil Nadu. “The idea came as soon as I started visiting these places. After collecting details about the places, I thought of developing an app to help tourists and heritage lovers. If you have a smartphone, you can turn it into a smart guide by using the apps I developed,” says Devyani, a computer engineer by profession.
Unlike a regular guide, you can use the apps to explore the heritage sites at your own pace. “The app has graphics to explore hidden content of the place, a map of the site and a suggested tour plan to optimise your time.

Whether you are a history student, or a tourist, the app will enrich your knowledge.
The details about these places were collected after extensive research,” she says.
The apps, called Devyani Innovations, are available on Google play store for free download.

Devyani has covered 60% of the temples and other historical monuments in the state. She is currently working on an app for the Hoysala temples in Karnataka
